A Few More Football Notes
-- N&O: Wilson's time with Pack could be short. Wilson will be eligible for next year's MLB draft, and he's also on track to graduate next spring. TOB plans to give Mike Glennon one series in the first half of each game. Also at the link: updates on Matt Kushner (back at 100%) and Javon Walker (may not be ready for the start of practice).
--Pack Pride: O'Brien Notables.
O'Brien insinuated several times that Wilson might not be here all four years of eligibility. “We don't know what Russell's baseball future is – he may be here a year, might be here two more years. If he's here a senior its because his plans in baseball have fallen apart.”
-- TOB credits staff continuity to his "good looks and personality."
-- According to Tomahawk Nation, Florida State coaches are telling recruits that Chuck Amato will be fired after the 2009 season.

don't know, but it may not matter
For the sake of his baseball prospects, he’s probably best served to go ahead and sign with whoever drafts him, regardless of round.

Wilson
I don’t think that is a big surprise. I know it’s early, but everything I heard is that Glennon was quite close to winning the job last year.

No surprise, but disappointing
Again… how many schools do you hear of where a player is the best at his position in the conference in his freshman year… and that player only gives the school two years due to a personal decision.
I’ve never heard of it.
At NC State, we invent new ways to lose talent every year.
And on the Glennon point, I think he’s going to be very good… but I’m not sure he does what Russell did last year. Some kids have talent, and some step up on game day. Russell falls into the second category, and we shouldn’t think that replacing him will be seamless. He’s a very special athlete… and we’ll take a hit when he quits.

True
I agree it may not be seamless, but the offensive staff (from what I heard when he signed) think that Glennon will be every bit as good as Matt Ryan. Maybe not, but so far I think the staff has been right on most of their calls.
