David Thompson Tops SI's Thrill List, Plus Other Items

-- Thrill List: College Basketball

1. David Thompson, NC State

The North Carolina State forward popularized the term vertical leap by using breathtaking ups to convert alley-oop passes. It wouldn't have been quite as thrilling if he hadn't played during (dunk) prohibition; as with so many of life's pleasures, it's often worth leaving a little something to the imagination.

Who, this guy?  Pffft.

(I recommend keeping the volume down.)

--Heather Dinich takes a look at how some schools handle social networking websites:

In its "Guidelines for the use of social networking sites," NC State warns that "coaches and athletic department administrators can and do monitor these web sites," as does the local police and sheriff's offices.

"We certainly always worry about what they post," NC State coach Tom O'Brien said. "We spend a lot of time talking to them about what's acceptable and what's not acceptable. They have to understand it's going to follow them for life. Decisions you make at 3 o'clock in the morning aren't always the best."

-- In today's edition of Inside Wolfpack Sports, Tony Haynes talks with Terrence Holt.  Includes football highlights that'll bring back some warm memories.

-- The AJC's Tony Barnhart picks FSU to win the Atlantic Division.  Picks the Pack third.

-- ESPN's 2009 college football announcing crew assignments have been released (ht: EDSBS).  Chris Fowler, Jesse Palmer, Craig James, and Erin Andrews will handle the opener against South Carolina.

-- Moneyball's not dead!  I know I shouldn't want to see this movie get made, but I do.
