Unsane
- in total defense is unsane. I think we’re good, but didn’t realize how good things had looked. I expect us to settle back into the pack over the next few weeks. Top 25 would be nice, though.
Defense rank
Yeah, I was just going to comment on that. I guess having 2 Div IAA opponents will do that for you. Still, at least it means we’re dominating the lower level, which good teams at the IA level do. We didn’t a few years ago.

it's a mirage, but it's fun while it lasts
Only reason we came out looking so good is because Pittsburgh had a limited number of snaps, which kept their total yardage down. They averaged more than 6 yards per play, though—a terrible figure for the defense.
Yeah, that's not so good
Still, the defense made the stops at the end when needed, which my other favorite team’s defense did not. Sometimes its more about when you make the plays . . . .

Nice to see that we finally have an offense that scores points :)

There’s a reason Pitt had a limited number of stats… like, the fact that they couldn’t pick up a first down to save their lives in the 2nd half.
At some point, over the course of four games, these stats mean something. Do they mean we have the best defense in the country? Oh, hell no. But there are plenty of teams out there who have played a schedule similar to ours… and their defenses aren’t ranked #1.
And that being said, we have played some BAD quarterbacks… Jacory Harris will still have a field day with our secondary. Luckily, there aren’t too many other QB’s in the league who just scare the shit out of me.

Wow – I hadn’t even considered that we don’t have to face Miami… methinks that’s a good thing.

The funny thing is
that our defensive philosophy tends to be more of a bend but don’t break mindset, which usually allows more yardage, but hopefully limits scores and increases turnovers.
I don’t think anyone believes NCSU has the best defense in the nation, but they sure have been better than most of us expected. If the special teams could just become respectable . . .
