ACC basketball appears to be starting out worse than ACC football did out of conference. Here is a list of the losses so far:
Wake lost to Stetson, VCU, and Winthrop
Miami lost to Memphis (19) and Rutgers
GT lost to Kennesaw State and has struggled against some other low level opponents
VT lost at Kansas State (3)
UVA lost to Stanford and Washington (11)
Maryland lost to Pitt (4) and Illinios (19)
BC lost to Yale
UNC lost to Minnesota and Vanderbilt
NC State lost to Georgetown(21)
Clemson lost to Old Dominion
The league's best win is Duke over Marquette, which is the far and away #1 team from the ACC over the #7 team from the Big East. Nobody else has done anything of note. I have not looked at the ACC Big Ten match ups, but the ACC is most likely going to get blitzed. Maryland actually looked decent in their two losses. NC State, without their best player, was beaten by a talented, more experienced team. VT lost at a really good team's place, and they have been hit by the injury bug as well. I expect Wake, UVA, BC, GT and Miami to all be bad teams this year. I expect State and UNC to improve as both need young players to step up. But overall the Big Ten and Big East appear to be far superior to the ACC this year and the Big 12 will probably be better overall as well. The silver lining is that much like football this year, a down league will make it possible for NC State to make a jump into the upper echelon of the standings. State will be fighting it out with FSU, VT, Maryland, and UNC for spots 2-6.
