So on to specifics
1 – Our defensive gameplan was unforgivably poor. The announcers pre-game stressed that we had exactly one guy that we had to stop… and we single-covered the fucker all game long… and still haven’t stopped him. With coaching like that, we deserved to lose.
2 – Despite the fact that we ran it a few times successfully on our drive that came up empty inside the 10 when we were down 31-17, the first and second down plays inside the 10 were basic runs with no chance of success. With play calling like that, we deserved to lose.
3 – Friedgen immediately turns around and hangs another 7 on us. TOB, you got pwned there, buddy. Getting outcoached that badly, we deserved to lose. (For reference, turn the tables. Zero percent chance UMd runs on 1st and 2nd if they’re in our shoes, and zero percent chance we do anything but three-and-out if we’re in UMd’s shoes. So we deserved to lose.)
4 – After coming out and kicking their asses up and down the field for a quarter, we just stopped giving a shit. With effort like that, we deserved to lose.
5 – We dropped two easy touchdown passes. One made us settle for a FG, the other forced us to settle for one… so 14 points net loss for us. With focus like that, we deserved to lose.
6 – Russell was awful. With QB play like that, we deserved to lose.
I’m honestly OK with it. FSU is simply a better team than we are, and UMd was a better team today. We did not deserve to represent the division in the ACC championship, much less consider representing the league in the Orange Bowl. We got what we deserved…
Just one time.
Just one damn time I wish we could come through. Don’t even care about the particulars…this sucks. This fucking sucks big time.
from reading posts at blogs, i know i was one of the few
that thought State would win. after we went up 14 zipp, i felt good. then State just plain choked-especially after Greene got cold cocked.
State receivers really let the team down by just not making catches that they normally do. was part of it alligator arms due most likely to thinking about the hit on Greene, or was it the pressure of the game?
where was Nate? after many of us felt he was dissed by not being one of the 5 finalist for the Butkus award, Nate didn’t do much in this big game.
that bad spot at the end of the game, which sealed it, gave the team reason to not accept that their ass got royally kicked.
one of the worst things is that i live in Northern Virginia and i am going to have to read in the Washington Post how great Maryland is-again!
lets put 2010 in perspective: women’s basketball team playes for conference championship, loses; baseball team plays for conference championship, loses; and football teams plays for division title, loses. always a bridesmaid?
Nate had nothing to do
Hell, they didn’t/couldn’t run it… that’s where he excels. But somehow, their porous-ass offensive line kept us from getting any meaningful pressure on DOB all day long. Well, that and our defensive scheme that somehow failed to cover their single deep threat AND failed to rush enough folks to get pressure. What WAS the defensive gameplan, anyway???

is O'Brien of Maryland another
Rivers or is he a Jamie Barnett with a great receiver?
He looked accurate
He needs more arm strength to become an upper echelon guy, but very promising for a freshman

My biggest issue
was the defense.
Why never seemingly tried to double cover the one guy who was killing us. We even allowed him to line up 1 on 1 with fucking linebackers on 3rd and long and in the redzone, how does that happen? It is the second week in a row where I have noticed us having a linebacker lined up in man coverage on a wide receiver in an obvious pass situation in the redzone, with the result being a td to said receiver. The next time we stop a skinny post by a slot receiver or tight end will be the first.
The offensive playcalling was uninspiring as well. Was it woth that complained about our 1st and 2nd down play calls inside the 10? He was right on.
FUCK
FUCK says it all, man
FUCK says it all…
