Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

This team has faced adversity twice and shown nothing. Absolutely nothing. I could never give up hope--that would be a sad irony this week--but I think we're well beyond the shrug-off point with this sort of performance. It's over for Sidney Lowe. It's just a matter of when.

Yep
He obviously lost this team before we hit December. Thanks for the talent, Sid – wish you had a clue about what to do with it.
I turned the game off
before halftime. This game was eerily similar to our ACC-Big 10 matchup against Michigan State the year we had Hickson and high hopes.
The only thing that would have kept me watching is the liveblog, but I had a 1 month old to appease, which makes liveblogging difficult.
Brief thoughts
I am not sure how a team can show so little fight and pride. I expected to lose this game, but not to have a team that was an affront to the game of basketball.
Where was the defensive help when their much bigger PG posted up our small PGs? Why can teams make 3 passes against us and be gauranteed to have a wide open shot? Why is Richard Howell the only player that gives a damn about rebounding? What the hell was Javi thinking with those passes?
This team is rudderless right now. We have no identity on offense. Every trip down the floor it is like the guys stop and think, “ok, what are we going to try this time?” Lowe does not appear to put any emphasis on defense or rebounding.
I was trying to start Lowe on a clean slate this year, but the same demons that have haunted his less talented teams also haunt this team, and they are significant enough to ensure that NC State will never be better than mediocre with Lowe at the helm.
I still have not figured out how Leslie was such a highly regarded prospect. He has decent athleticism, no shooting ability, limited ballhandling ability, and a questionable attitude, and a barely ready for college body. Harrow just gets abused on defense.
Seriously
At this point supporters of Lowe can not point to the excuses I’ve heard over these long years: first that these weren’t his players (amazingly enough you could reasonably argue his first year was his most successful, if only because of the ACCT performance), then he was excused because his recruits were low-level and unexceptional. Now he has 5-star recruits and a team that is wholly his own. Still nothing.
Yet I have friends that are willing to overlook these type of losses because the team is young. Nothing in recent history suggests they will get any better under Lowe, and clearly another 5-win ACC is in store for us.
Thank God I have another team to cheer for. This sucks.

Love this site and i’m just going to post what i put on another blog…
Anyway, our own f*** ups aside, the refs did take us out of this game with the three straight palming calls (and i did see Wisconsin “palm”, “travel”, “carry” in back to back to back sequences) and fouls that bailed out out-of-control Wisconsin players. Phantom fouls on blocks and fouls when there was no one around a Wisconsin player. Isnt that either a travel or a no call? I’m just sayin’. I mean how in the hell can Ryan Harrow foul a guy going for a rebound when the guy is behind him or at his side?! I’ll never pick against our Wolfpack and i didnt in the other message blogs on ESPN and elsewhere but i did doubt we’d win this game because Wisconsins offense puts players to sleep and once you go to sleep they flex cut you for a lay up or open jumper.
I’m not overly mad at this game because you have to put your inexperience players through the wringer (sp?) before conference play. If this happened during conference play then i’d be concerned. I’m still pissed and i’ve already made the statement that fans of any other school (which a lot of this fuckers didnt even attend) say any snarky ass comment to me then i’m going to kick that fool through a window. I mean Georgetown, Wisconsin, Syracuse and Arizona….who really thought we’d win all of those games? I believe we all hoped for 3-1, assumed we’d get a split at 2-2 but playing away from home 1-3 is to be expected. Have faith Wolfpack Nation. Its only our 6th game. Hell, two years ago Duke got taken to the wood shed by Georgetown or St Johns (i forget). Minus one year we’ve always progressed as the year has gone on. Lets take a breath, rally around our team and go forward.
My fear is...
…we’ll stumble and bumble our way into the tournament as a 12-seed, get bounced in the first game and then find ourselves divided as a fanbase (yet again) as to whether Sidney should stay or go.
Either succeed at the level we’re capable of or fail miserably, but don’t give me an in-between, just-good-enough-to-not-get-fired year.

good stuff, james
All I could think about last night was 2007. I was mildly concerned about a repeat coming into the season…now I’m really concerned.
at least
the women won big beating Illionis 73-57 in the big ten challenge. i was actually expecting a double loss for the Pack considering State was 0-4 on the road prior to this game. the State women have played 3 at home and 5 on the road. that’s tough for a young team. Holston and Kastanek were the leaders with 18 and 15 points respectively.
can anyone tell me........
why leslie did not play a second of the second half? i understand coaching points and all……but none???? really?
....
Rvdbbw, I appreciate your optimism, but Duke lost to Georgetown by 12-15 points last season, which looks like a nail-biter compared to this game. Duke then went on to win six games in a row, while we have lost our only two serious games by increasingly wider margins. I realize things might get better with Smith back (in 10-12 days!), but this team has a long way to go. Madison may be a tough environment, but Wisc. is not this good of a team, home or away, and so we should have serious concern.
O.My.God.
You guys found a worse coach than Hewitt. How!?! Watched a bit of the game…it was painful. Good luck the rest of the season.
Geez, stop whining and 'enjoy the ride'
I agree with you all that things don’t look good, but IF Lowe is a good coach, he’ll definitely have a change to show it. I swear, you guys are like a bunch of junior high school girls adjusting to their hormone cycles… we win and everything is great, we lose and the world of NC State is coming to an end. Grow up!
Let’s face it, the team quit. I have yet to see any offensive cohesion, and a positive spin on the game would be that the defense resembled that of a high school team.
Unlike you guys, I have (so far unjustified) confidence that Lowe’s learned something in his last 4 years of coaching college basketball.
If all you care about is whether we win or lose, you are rooting for the wrong school – go transfer to Duke, because you’ll be much happier there for the next few years until K retires. Each season is a journey and when I look at games, I hope to see improvements as the season moves along. We saw that last year, and hopefully, we’ll see it this year. The season isn’t over yet. Not by a long shot.
You're entire argument
is that Lowe has shown no evidence of this, but he might be a good coach so lay off!
Also, since you obviously don’t care about wins or losses, I think you are the one rooting for the wrong school. You should go root for a D III school that doesn’t give out athletic scholarships. NC State is a member of the ACC and spends millions of dollars on its sports teams, the moment we stop caring about wins and losses is the moment we should disband the athletic department and stop participating in sports altogether.
One of my biggest pet peeves is idiots going on sports blog messageboards and telling people they can’t be critical of the team/coach or they are a bad fan. Just because you refuse to live in reality, doesn’t mean the rest of us have to do the same.
*Slow Clap*
How would one propose to “enjoy the ride” of a 39 point loss? Also, a good coach doesn’t have his team quit on him on half the games of the season (Georgetown, Farleigh Dickinson, Wisconsin).
You have to realize how bad letting Wisconsin score 87 points is. This is a team that doesn’t even want to score that many points. They past up multiple wide open shots every possession in order to keep the score down! If we show that performance against a team like Duke, they score 120 easy.
Lowe's coaching ability update...
I guess one game later – who’s the moron on the message board???? who was ready to fire Lowe after one game? Man, you guys are exactly like I described: a bunch of junior high school girls adjusting to their hormone cycles…
I rest my case… At least have the patience to wait until March to see if we have a decent coach. He’s already shown twice that he can improve a team dramatically by the end of the season. Let’s hope he can do it again.
You are right
grasping defeat from the jaws of victory has really changed my mind on Lowe! If you watched the game you saw Syracuse play terrible and NC State play even worse. Listen, I hope I am wrong about Lowe, I would like nothing better than to see NC State start winning immediately.
I would be more excited about Lowe dramatically improving a team if he had taken teams from good to great or even mediocre to good, rather than from terrible to mediocre.
You can keep enjoying these moral victories if you would like, but I want results.
Btw, you are still the messageboard moron.
