Tracy Smith Will Return For His Senior Season

Not to worry--the Macrowave be here next year in all of his face-melting glory:

Tracy Smith wants to play in the NBA when his college career is over but professional basketball will have to wait.

Smith, N.C. State's leading scorer and rebounder, will return for his senior season, he said Wednesday.

"I'll wait my turn next year," Smith, a junior, said. "I want to graduate and be ready."

Smith averages 17.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the last-place Wolfpack. Smith called the season "frustrating" for both the Wolfpack's record, 3-10 in the ACC, and the constant double-teams but said he feels his NBA stock would go up with another college season.

Harrow to Smith. Harrow to Smith. Just repeat that to yourself for the rest of the season.

In other news:

-- DT is getting inducted into the National Collegiate Hall of Fame. What took so long?

-- An article from Technician about Russell Wilson the pitcher. Wilson's mental approach to pitching is exactly what you'd expect from a guy who's succeeded at quarterback in a BCS conference.

-- Good stuff from Duke's student paper regarding tempo-free stats. Plus bonus John Gasaway interview.

-- The Washington Post goes tempo-free in talking about the Terps and the strength of the ACC.  This commenter continues the fine internet tradition of dismissing what you don't understand:

These stat freaks just don't seem to get it.
It's the score differential that matters. The efficiency is a similar result.

Efficiency margin is point differential.  Mercy.

I'm cautiously excited...

… about next year. With a stout backcourt (which we will have), plus a solid frontline, there’s no reason we should be lower than middle-of-the-league with an NCAA berth. Fail that, and Sid should pack.

But Ryan – if you’re reading this – I have no fears. No pressure – we’re going to be good, and you’re going to help get us there.

I’ve been trying to resist, because I just don’t see this team playing any defense, but I’m excited as well. Herb’s teams proved you can be moderately successful with good offense and bad defense. We’ve got to take a huge step forward to be in the neighborhood of those offenses, though.
