With the score 72-69, Javier Gonzalez missed a jumper with 33 seconds to play. He also tried an 18-footer with 6.5 seconds left with the Pack behind 73-71, and he missed that as well.
Finally, with 1 second left, Julius Mays put up a 3-point attempt for the win from the top of the key, and it missed, too. "The first one went halfway down, it looked in," Gonzalez said. "The next one, the last one I took, felt good, too."
Gonzalez let out a big sigh and leaned against a wall outside the N.C. State locker room. It was the fourth straight ACC loss for the Wolfpack (14-10, 2-7) since shocking Duke on Jan. 20.

Farnold Degand
Why didnt he or CJ Williams play??
Degand was out with an injury.
Thigh bruise suffered in practice, I think. Williams simply played his way out of the rotation.
Strangely...
… it never even struck me that Degand didn’t play yesterday.
Easy to think he would’ve helped, but doubtful he would’ve affected the outcome…

WHAT?
Degand is a game changer. He has the ability to get the ball up the court consistently, and Javi and Julius can not. Degand is a really good passer, also better than Javi and Julius. We only lost by 2. Degand would have altered the result
Understand how important he is
I simply mean that, right now, it doesn’t seem to matter who plays… we have a losing mentality as a team, and that mentality is far stronger than mere lineups (as multiple lineup changes have shown).
But yeah – Degand’s speed can absolutely break a defense – just not sure a single player matters right now. Remember – we were down by double-digits with just a couple minutes left. If we weren’t, we never go to the the all-hell-breaking-loose press that even gave us a chance.

My GT friend
said that one of Paul Hewitt’s postgame comments was “In my 10 years at GT I have never been as embarrassed as he was in the second half of the duke game, until now.”
I hate that a Paul Hewitt coached team had its most embarrassing moment, and State couldn’t even win.
Reminds me of what a guy told me this morning
“You know, Sid’s just not very good at winning.”
Says it all…
