it would help State advance if
Gartrel continues shooting like she did in the ACC tournament, and if Kastanek returns to her pre ACC tournament form. as pointed out at this site, Gartrel until this year’s ACC tournament struggled with her shooting. in this year’s ACC tournament she finally achieved the level of play she was thought to have when she was recruited. Gartrel was rated 18 in her class and was on the junior national team which won the gold metal. as a matter of fact Gartrel’s class included four year S&S All -American and McDonald’s All American Amber White, number 47 in her class Sharnise Beal and number 63 (All Star girls) Lucy Ellison. Ellison and Beal have been hampered with injuries throughout their careers at State, and of course the whole class had to deal with Coach Yow’s illness and passing. this class may having finally reached their potential at the end of this season. (with regard to the ranking of the above players, other than Ellison, i don’t know which publication made the rankings, so i wrote what i read from various sources-too lazy to further research the issue.)
as for Kastanek, as the ACC tournament run progressed, she struggled more and more, not to say that she did not play well as she made 2nd team all tournament; however, she does need to do more against UCLA.
can’t find out the status of Beal who was injured in the ACC tournament final against Duke. she was on crutches with ice on her knee at the end of the game. State certainly needs her contribution.
Would
love to be watching this game – but ESPN2 thinks I’d be more interested in the OK game, I’m not.
