FSU 8, NC State 3

I can't say I'm surprised about what happened today considering the state of the pitching staff, but it sucks anyway.  NC State is now 0-5 in ACC title games since its last league title in 1992, and 4-12 in league championship games overall.  Between baseball and basketball, I'm starting to think there's a championship barrier we're never going to break.

Alex Sogard pitched about as well as one would hope, allowing a pair of runs over 4 & 1/3 innings of work.  The starters on both sides were relieved in the 5th, from which point it was clear who had benefited from a day off and who was hurting after a late night.  FSU had the luxury of inserting Sean Gilmartin, who is their regular Friday starter.  Gilmartin essentially did to NC State what Jake Buchanan did to Virginia Tech on Saturday.  Even so, NC State carried a slim lead into the bottom of the 7th before it all fell apart.

Catcher Chris Schaeffer was involved in a nasty collision with a Seminole baserunner in the 8th inning and had to be taken to the hospital.  A couple of hours ago, Tim Peeler said Schaeffer was alert and cracking jokes at the hospital, which is great news.

The NCAA tournament selection show airs tomorrow on ESPN at 12:30 PM.  I think we're in.
