Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Maynard went 1-for-4 for the game. The home run was his second of the Cape League season. Entering play Wednesday night at Brewster, Maynard is batting .286 with four doubles, two home runs and a team-leading 16 RBIs in 22 games. Maynard is second in the Cape League in RBIs and just one off the league lead, and is tied for fifth in home runs, also one off the league lead. He also leads the league in walks with 20 (compared to just nine strikeouts). He is 10th in the league in batting average, and sixth in on-base percentage at .452. He is 12th in slugging percentage at .444.

Pratt Maynard hits a game-winning grand slam in the midst of an outstanding summer season. This guy warms my sabermetric heart. Including his season at State, he's walked 84 times in 81 games, and since I'm a sucker for guys who walk a lot, Maynard is BTP's new Awesome Person Of Interest. (Redeem for a free beer!) I figure once Tracy's done I'm gonna need a new cause.

so how do you think

State is going to do in baseball next year? for sure Riggins is going to be a monster. just read that Sasser is a rising junior. for some reason i thought he was a senior. great to have him back. if he remains a closer, along with Chamra, things should be good in this department. GoPack as two good articles, one on your man Maynard and one on Ciencin. the one on Ciencin includes updates on quite a few returning players. i assume from what Jake said that he is gone. along with Jake, Kyle Wilson and the Polk cousins that is a big loss in hitting and pitching.
any idea how many of the incoming class of 2010 were lost to the draft?
already looking forward to next years ACC tournament and regular season games.

Yeah, Jake’s gone…signed a while back. So Mazzoni’s the Friday guy now. I think the offense will be fine despite the losses: Riggins, Maynard, Ciencin, Canela, Senay make a good core. No clue if we’ll pitch and catch better.

I read that Tzamtzis hurt his elbow this summer…hope that’s not serious.
