Depth Chart Released; Dean Haynes Starting At RB

PrintJames Washington and Curtis Underwood are nowhere to be seen on the depth chart for the Western Carolina game, which was released this afternoon. While those guys sit because of nagging injuries (FWIW, according to a producer at 620 AM, they "should be good to go" for UCF), freshmen Dean Haynes and Mustafa Greene have an opportunity to show what they've got. (Just don't fumble, kids.)
Elsewhere, juco transfer Mikel Overgaard gets the nod at right tackle, while Rob Crisp will back up Jake Vermiglio at left tackle. Rieskamp, Mageo, Slay, and Akinniyi are going to start up front for the defense; Audie Cole and Terrell Manning start alongside Nate Irving at linebacker.
There are three true freshmen listed as backups in the secondary: David Amerson at corner, D.J. Green and Dontae Johnson at safety.

Lots of hue and cry on the message boards about Haynes starting at RB
My philosophy, on this question and everything else, is that the coaches can do whatever the hell they want to. It’s their team, their players. If they want to run the Wildcat 20 times a game with Haynes at RB, go right ahead.
But I’d better not hear any excuses this year. Don’t talk to me about injuries, youth, lack of depth, whatever. It’s year 4. Win 7 games and get to a bowl, period.
