NC State followed up its insane 28-2 run against Texas on Monday with a 20-2 run against Elon that turned a four-point deficit into a 14-point lead in the first half. From there, the Phoenix never mounted much of a challenge and the Pack cruised to victory despite a average shooting night. They took care of the basketball and killed Elon on the glass at both ends, which made it tough for Elon to rally on a night where the threes weren't falling at a bizarrely high rate.
Lorenzo Brown led State with 21 points on 9-16 shooting, Scott Wood hit five threes, and Calvin added 13 points. Wood was the only State player to hit a three in the game, and so far at least, this team's problem is the same as it was a year ago: who do they rely on to make outside shots other than Wood?

Hopefully Alex Johnson’s outside shot will come around, and there’s always a chance that MegaHorse’s alter ego, the Belgian Bomber, will surface. For now, I can live with him grabbing a rebound every two minutes and demoralizing those foolish enough to attempt to dunk on him or look directly into his eyes.
Megahorse!
When #13 finally hit the floor I yelled, “Megahorse!” in my enthusiasm. The guy sitting in the row in front of me turned around and said, “Backing the Pack.”
He’s shooting from the outside when he gets an opening, that tells me he’s comfortable with it, and the coaching staff is comfortable with him taking it.
Megahorse eyes of doom
After he got called for an early foul he gave the ref an evil stare. The ref then told AJ to calm him down. As he slowly backed up…
I feel like Brown
is going to have to at least be considered a threat to attempt a few threes during ACC play or his offense (and the team’s) will take a big hit when he starts facing higher quality defenders.
agreed
Brown shot ~30% from outside last season if I remember correctly. Hopefully he and Johnson can be consistent enough to keep the defense honest.

Also
I find it strange that Wood and Leslie did not start (eventhough they got starter’s minutes)
Wood will probably start
once they’re fully confident about his ankle. I don’t think they thought he’d get as many minutes as he did.
Regarding Calvin, I think the quote from the Gottfather about what he’d have to do to start was “I don’t know. And I don’t care.” I mean, why would you mess with it, the way he’s contributing off the bench?
Using the bench as motivation is great for a while
At some point the effectiveness of this tool wears off and starts to be counterproductive. I bet calvin starts against IU.

Motivational tool or not
it’s about getting results. And the results are tasty.
