As outlined in his contract, Gill, who came to Kansas after a 20-30 stint at Buffalo and guided the Jayhawks to a 5-19 record in two seasons, will receive $6 million within the next 90 days.
Turner Gill was fired but is gonna have a very merry Christmas anyway. Even Paul Hewitt is impressed.

How are ADs getting taken so badly, so consistently, in negotiations with coaches? Turner Gill coached at freaking Buffalo, and you are offering him a BCS conference job. The school has the leverage, not the coach. What’s he going to say, give me the $6 million guaranteed buyout or I’m walking?
Two theories: (1) many ADs are ex-jocks who have risen up through the ranks and are significantly less savvy than the coach’s agent/lawyer negotiating for the coach, thus they get taken in these deals (2) ADs are so afraid of having a major hire blow up publicly that they cave quickly on stuff like this just to get the deal done.
I bet #2 is the biggest part of it.
But it really is amazing. I’m not sure Gill even had a winning record at Buffalo.
