"The old saying that when the going gets tough the tough get going, we have to be better when it gets tougher. It's really simple. We have to enjoy that challenge, enjoy that part of the game, when another team makes a run. Do we invite that and say 'let's go to another level?' or do we seem to get unsure or more passive. We have to love the challenge, I've always said it, competitive greatness is the real love of a hard battle. When it gets real hard you have to love it, we have to get there, I don't think we're there yet."

Talk the Talk
As usual, Gott knows exactly the right thing to say. Makes sense, he comes from TV and had a couple of years to hone those skills. He knows how we are hearing what he is saying when he is saying what we are hearing. (Ouch! I think I hurt myself)
We’re 8 games into the season and have won only one really tough game. If we see this shift in mindset that he is describing by the end of the season, no matter the W-L record, Gott will have won me over. That insatiable drive to win is the biggest difference between the Pack and Duke year in and year out. (plus about 20 miles and a significant difference in murder rates)
Agree 100%
It’s hard to take a mindset… an attitude… and change it overnight. If he can do it in a season… make the kids believe… make them want it… make them refuse to lose… make them tough when the shit hits the fan… he’ll have done his job for Year One.
Add to that the incoming class, and he’ll have done everything we could reasonably expect.
Problem is – we can all see just how close this team is to being NCAA-tourney-caliber… and it’s frustrating to blow every non-conference opportunity. Even if we develop as the year goes on & go 9-7, we’re not going dancing… it’ll be too little, too late for this season. But until a month ago, no one thought the tournament was even a reasonable goal – so it’s already progress…
