Then We're Agreed There'll Be Trouble
Mark Turgeon couldn't help but reference a certain incident during his introductory press conference this afternoon:
"I had a great conversation with Gary. I know he’s not going to try to sabotage Maryland basketball."
He is referring, of course, to recent efforts by Gary Williams that made it impossible for Debbie Yow to hire a currently employed basketball coach. This is merely the latest in a long string of incidents between NC State and Maryland; these hijinks are a tradition as old as the rivalry itself.
Older alums probably remember when David Thompson was spotted walking out of a service entrance at the Greensboro Coliseum hours before the 1974 ACC tournament title game. Coincidentally or not, Maryland forward Len Elmore later broke down and caught fire toward the end of regulation. NC State went on to win the game in overtime and claim the league's NCAA tournament bid.
I'd watch where I step in the RBC Center next year, coach, is all I'm saying. Does it really take $1.6 million to replace the seats in the arena? Come on now.

Are you serious?
He poked fun a Debbie, jokingly. And honestly, for the nonsense and crazy accusation Yow made, she deserved it. Are things really that bad in NC State that you’re resorting to making this an issue? It honestly sounds more like bitterness than anything else; jealously that Maryland is a more desirable program than State and that we actually landed an up and coming coach, whereas State and Debbie had to settle for someone who got fired from the powerhouse that is Alabama basketball and who’d been out of coaching for two years.
of course i'm not serious
I’m almost never serious. I thought this was fairly clearly tongue-in-cheek. The whole ‘sabotage’ thing amuses me.

My bad. Should be good times this bball season.
For the record, NC State is my 2nd fav ACC team

Really, man - get over yourself - and stop taking yourself (or any of this) so damn seriously
Williams is a flaming ass. Seems that 99.999% of the world’s population knows that. The others come to BTP to irrationally defend him.
But having Turgeon talk about that in the presser is just odd… time to just move the fuck on… we have.

I don't understand
What you are jokingly eluding to in “Older Alums…” paragraph.
Are you saying Len Elmore and David Thompson were lovers?
I know, that was giving me the creeps
talk about allegation and innuendo
"firegary, go sit under the basket at one of Montrose's games next year so...
JA can flush one right down your throat you little trouble making hatin’ weasel…"

Since she didn't like her last hire...

Sounds like he really had it hummin'
Turgeon admits he’s going to have to be more patient and that he hates traffic. "I hate to miss a red light." Anybody got a helicopter? " I could almost hear the Roscoe P Coltrane laugh from one of the beat writers from the insert name of KKK on the Mason Dixon town outside of the Metro.

hijinks
The best was when Julius Hodge was calling out Maryland players by their initials to the WaPo “I have something for him” and the reporter is like “Who?” and Hodge was like “I’ll just say SB and DN” (Steve Blake/Drew Nicholas). It was priceless because it was funny and you knew the game was going to be war. If I can find the article I’ll post the link.
Hodge was on a local (raleigh) radio show
and he thanked Nik Caner-Medley for allowing him to get an NBA contract (due to Nik’s terrible defense).
I still have nightmares of Nicholas bombing that last second 3 from about 30 feet out to beat State in Raleigh, and don’t even get me started on the ill-fated ACC tourney game where State blew a 20 point lead in about 4 minutes when Gilchrist was just going nuts.

I was at that game
The visual of him releasing that shot is burned into my retina forever… thanks for the reminder, ass…

I figure if I think of it, I might as well spread the misery.

Love This Site!
Always good for a chuckle.
I’d still love to see us get a nasty rivalry going with UMD.
I will say one thing positive about this hire
The State of Maryland is much stricter on what humans are allowed to do with farm animals than Texas and the other Mid West haunts Turge is used to.
