Bob Alejo Named Strength And Conditioning Overseer
From GoPack:
NC State Athletics has announced the appointment of Bob Alejo as Assistant Athletics Director for Strength and Conditioning/Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Alejo, who has approximately 30 years of experience working with a variety of sports on the professional and collegiate levels, will oversee the strength and conditioning unit for all 23 Wolfpack varsity teams, and will manage personally the day-to-day strength program for the men's basketball team.
The release notes that he is an "accomplished lecturer and author" which led me to wonder what--
Oh.
Do you want to know the terrifying truth, or do you want to see me sock a few dingers?
In all seriousness, this looks like a great hire, and I think we've needed help in this area for a while. In addition to his time with the Oakland Athletics, Alejo spent a decade with UCLA, which is where he met Mark Gottfried.

A hire was needed
And badly. I am really tired of being out manned by everyone in each sports. Hell even the guys on New Orleans bball team looked bigger and more athletic than our bball team two years ago.
It has been really noticable
in bball. Our players just have not developed strengthwise like one should expect.
fewer injuries???
My understanding is that besides strength, injury prevention is an objective of a strength and conditioning program. I’ve always wondered if our weak strength and conditioning program was a factor in many fatigue and stress-induced injuries.
