Sean Miller to be announced as Maryland's new Head Coach Monday
Yep it happened

Not trolling, just wanted to set the record straight. Guys, I am not dissing the Pack-we've had a lot of great wars. But your AD is going to make your lives painful. Once you guys get a respectable AD you could be back quite quickly I think.

I'll repost what I just said on the other thread
It looks like this may happen. If so, it would seem to confirm much of what I (and others) had heard during the time before and during our search: Miller did want out of Arizona, his family doesn’t like it there, he wanted an ACC job, and he expressed interest in our job through back channels. I was emailing this info to Steven during the search, he can vouch for me.
The question that remains is, why Maryland and not here?
Didn’t want to work for Yow? Herb/Gary badmouthing us? More $$$ than what we could offer (Under Armour)? He’s thinking more rationally and less emotionally now that the glow of the Elite 8 run has worn off? The Arizona AD is not coming through on promises he made? Wife’s nagging finally got to him? Archie nepotism issue is not a problem anymore? He just thinks Maryland is better?
I could see any or all of these being the reason.
But if it happens, then congrats to Maryland for pulling of a great hire. I for one won’t be bothered by it. Although he was not on our radar during the search, I view Gottfried as roughly equal to those that I considered to be the best available options, and I think he’ll do well here.
Three other musings
(1) The opportunity for us to hire a big name coach was 2006, not this year. Even a complete incompetent like Lee Fowler almost pulled in Calipari, and he probably could have hired Barnes and Beilein if he hadn’t screwed up negotiations. This year, five years removed from having a decent team, was not the right time it seems. Though I do think Yow made mistakes, I do not think that she could have done anything differently to lure the big names.
(2) The simple truth is that our brand in basketball is dead. I turn 30 this year and I am not old enough to remember our last national title. There’s only one way back to relevance – winning. We have a good staff now, let’s hope that they can execute.
(3) Terp fans, I would not rest easy until the press conference happens. And maybe not until a week or so after that.
Just a quick thing about point #1
“I do not think that she could have done anything differently to lure the big names.”
I’d think Debbie Yow not being there would have brought in somebody better than the guy you got (name escapes me). I have no specific ill will towards NC Basketball, but I am truly happy that Debbie Yow is doing a horrible job with the Basketball team. After she left it’s become abundantly clear that Maryland athletics was successful in spite of her rather than because of her.
I like Turtles!
lol
how? because of the ncaa tourney that you missed? what about the ACC championship you didn’t make in football? Oh it must be baseball and women’s basketball that took off last year lol, please get a life and get a clue
I love the Steelers.

Yow isn't making our lives painful.
Continuing the pain, maybe, but our lives have been painful for a long time. Also, if this hiring happened so fast, I’m sure Maryland’s AD already had Miller in the bag when Gary announced.
Forgot to add
Congrats if this is true. I’m tired of the ACC being shitty.
We need some good luck
We just get played. I wouldn’t have reported a thing but ESPN reported the hire-guess its good I didn’t major in journalism. Try to be nice to Tubby when he comes down there with the squad!
Miller staying at Arizona, most
likely used Maryland to get more money:
To the Maryland fans who were being cool
See my point 3. I spoke from experience.
I wonder if the media will blast Maryland like they blasted us.

Damn
Miller says no, Stevens says no, Dixon says no, Wright not a candidate reportedly, Brey may be working on an extension with ND….Terps getting Heisman’d everywhere.
Say what you will about Yow, but at least she never flew to Vegas to meet with a coach that everyone thought she had in the bag only to get very publicly rejected.
I am glad
that the record was set straight for us. Does UMd’s AD now come out and blast Yow for sabotaging his coaching search?
Steven
Just do our Maryland friends a favor and send them an autographed copy of all the possible savior write-ups. Should save them a lot of time, because this shit is looking really familiar.
so word is its turgeon
Not a horrible hire but not a sexy one.
That said, lol lol lol ..

Wow
I just saw this post today. I was positive Miller was going to be at Maryland after I started hearing the rumors. That would just be some NCStateshit.
Turgeon would be a good hire, but not exciting (neither was Gottfried). Gary really did no favors with the timing of his retirement.
LOL
I just saw this news on Monday. Imagine how they feel now. Its gotta suck, especially with the national media telling you how great of a job it is and how you had him ‘in the bag’. LOL
I’m sorry I’d rather not have legitimate news outlets getting my hopes up only to get stiff armed in the face. I guess its one thing to have the sports writers on your side, but it really means nothing. This shows that they know nothing. Top 10 program? They are looking more and more like NC State every day, dare I say worse? Especially since its a top program! LOL
This has made me so happy, just because of all the crap NCSU fans get. It isn’t so much of dumping on Maryland as it is the national media. We see why exactly 1 program (UNC) has been able to pull a top coach from another top program in the ACC, its a tough thing to do. Coaches aren’t going to leave a program that they built up only to do it all over again. There is nothing wrong with the NCSU job its just that we set the bar so high and thats our own fault. We made it so that if we didn’t get a named coach the search was a failure. When there is nothing in the sports world that says you have to have a name coach to win. You get your name by winning. You don’t win because of your name.
So while it would have been nice, it wasn’t necessary and the media made it into something it wasn’t, a condemnation of the NCSU basketball program. Is NCSU a top 20 program right now? Of course it isn’t. But it isn’t a ‘terrible’ job in the sense that with the right guy, it can become competitive relatively quickly, in about 3-4 years.
This also validates Yow to a degree. Not only it says that she may not have been the reason that coaches wouldn’t job but it also says that GW left the program in touch shape and she may have had valid reasons to try to light a fire on GW during her final years there. Either way NCSU now has the 3rd most experienced coach in the ACC. I expect our basketball team to at least be 3rd best in the ACC soon too, while peaking at 1 and 2 some years.
GO Pack
I love the Steelers.
If Turgeon says no, you may get a call anyway.
Backing The Pack

Where are all the MD fans
that came out after the Gottfried PC? Funny how these things work out.

You know I gotta say I learned my lesson-wait until the presser
But-Turgeon seems to really know what he’s doing. His assistant hires have been nothing short of perfect. Gary seems to really like him (Gary is sticking around as assistant AD). Faust recommitted, its all good. The Sean Miller hire would have been icing, but so far I don’t know that Miller could have done a better job than what Turge has done. Guess we’ll never know.
I am reminded that Gary Williams was like Maryland’s 4th choice at the time, but that one worked out just great in Terpland. You guys seem to be doing pretty well grabbing a good 2 guard. Maybe ACC hoops will pick up again after a few down seasons.
