Pretty sure this is on par with Mark Gottfried
Good for them… but not the homerun those flaming assholes said was coming.
did Yow swing and miss on Turgeon?
its a better hire for Maryland than i thought they would get.
Rumors are...
Search firm thought he was angling for a raise or that he was the guy who had lots of reverence for the blues.
I've heard he was the reverence guy.

I'm not sure how he worded it
but I still think that is an asinine reason to shut off talks with a coaching candidate.

totally agree
It’s disappointing that she’d shut down a guy of Turgeon’s caliber for something that just seems petty.

not sure exactly
Yow mentioned during MG’s presser that she didn’t consider a coach because he showed too much appreciation/reverence for the Duke/UNC programs.

Good hire for Maryland
It still amazes me that so many people (media and fans alike) expected NC State and Maryland to hire big name coaches, and if they did not the search was a failure. Apparently these people have blocked the thought out of their mind that big time coaches almost never change jobs. You can’t fault NCSU, Maryland, or any other school for testing the waters with certain guys, but nobody should have ever expected for the big names to actually accept those jobs.
Good hire
This is better than I thought they were going to do, and not because its Maryland, but because of the timing of the search. Williams really put them behind the 8-ball, I thought. Why wait so long after the season is over to retire. Still this is a good hire for UMD and the ACC. Neither school had really exceptional recruiting classes, so not sure a lot of defections will mean much to either school.
Oh well
After the flood of UMD trollers over MG’s PC, I have to admit I was hoping this would drag out a couple more weeks. At least the flurry of weekend turn downs made for a good laugh. :)
I think it’s safe to say, at this point, that Fowler was the biggest reason for perpetuating the “State fans are unrealistic” crap.

This one was most likely
never going to drag out since the season was over so they were free to talk immediately with any coach they wished. On the other hand, NCSU had to wait until Texas’ season ended, then Arizona’s, then VCU’s to get down to serious discussions with the coaches they wanted to interview.

Actually saw this as a different kind of red flag
98.8 % of the coachspeak out there has the word “Respect” built into the language. Its a game played by boys and coached by men and words whimsical sayings of “Great reverence” are reserved for church sermons and poetry by Chaucer. The other 1.2 % of Coaches out there that rock this vernacular are this dude, Herb Sendek (who wrote a 46 page essay about Chaucer and the aesthetics of steel). Great teacher of fundamentals, I’m sure, but the in the all the years GW dissed DC/Baltimore prep players they still managed to do all right for themselves (Durant, Carmelo, Beasely, Gay, Lawson, and on and on). Point is they aren’t sitting there waiting for the Twerps and HC’s and assistants have made major inroads already.

They are supposed to be paying him 2.5-2.8 million a year
Pretty sure that guy isn’t worth that kind of coin.
I expect him to be solid but unspectacular.
