NC State Drops Regional Opener To Stetson, 8-7
It looked good early, then it looked worse but still tenable, then it looked worse still, and then it looked better, and then we lost. I should be a beat writer.
Stetson rallied from a 5-0 deficit to lead 7-5 before NC State tied the game on a Danny Canela home run in the 7th inning. State's pitchers worked out of a couple of jams in the 7th and 8th and the team finally appeared to be in a position to extend the game well into extras when Chris Overman entered for the 9th. Ben Carhart hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored the game-winner on a single and error by the left fielder. There would have been a play at the plate had Cameron Conner fielded the hit cleanly; how close it would have been, I have no idea.
While all of State's relief pitchers struggled to some degree, Stetson found a game-saver in Jake Boyd, who struck out six over the final three innings. State never put a runner in scoring position against Boyd, while the Hatters threatened throughout the final third of the game.
Damn you, sports!

sbas2 seen pulling out his hair due to
Avent’s out smarting himself -AGAIN!
with Chamra and Mazzoni available Avent goes with Ogborn! i like Ogborn for middle relief and setting up Overman. i wrote earlier that i would have gone with Chamra. still would have. he beat UVA and has been a Friday night starter. Ogborn-not so much.
Avent better win some NCAA games-now. not that i can do anything about it.
me things Stetson shot thier ward trying to win today’s game. if Boyd wasn’t their closer, i would hate to see their closer. and if he was their closer, pitching him three finishes him for a bit-me thinks.
i was impressed with the number of 325 to 350 hitters in Stetson’s lineup. looked like FSU, GaTech or Clemson. what if their ace pitcher was available?
Actually, I'm the Stetson closer
and I would have been better then yours today-,1 inning pitched, 1 wild pitch, 2 hits, game…

BTW, after losing it in the bottom of the ninth
I wonder if Ediot Avent still thinks there is no difference between being a two-seed and a three seed.

You just can't blow leads consistently & think you're a good team
I’d rather just take an ass-whipping…
