so why did the ACC expand?
panic! could have made the 20 million to leave fee and not added any other schools.
i am only happy with expansion if the conference goes to 16 schools.
of course, if the ACC goes to 16 schools, it will put pressure on the SEC and Pac 12 to do so-or so says I-and that ain’t worth much.
I am cool with expansion to 14 teams. If the ACC tips the apple cart and is the first to 16, you can count on the SEC targeting FSU or Clemson. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to wake the Slive.

Its all relative
It depends on the incremental additional revenue one would get as a part of an SEC deal compared to sticking with the ACC, discounted back to its present value. If that number is greater than $20 mil (my guess would be that it would be, given the SEC’s fat TV deal), then van halen lyrics start playing in your head.
I 100% disagree that the SEC would want CU or FSU. Both bring approximately 0 new eyeballs and or TV markets to the conference and thus no additional money. VT, UMD, and little ole NC State bring much more juice to the table. But we’ve slammed the door on that out of this insane concept of loyalty to the ACC and/or fear that we could not compete at the highest level in football.
If freaking USC can do it, who prior to the last two years had won exactly 0 national championships ever in anything, we can do it. Maybe not with TOB and maybe it takes 5-10 years, but it is doable. sigh.

I don't think the ACC has much renegotiation leverage
staying at 14 teams. Syracuse and Pitt aren’t bad additions, but they don’t improve the overall worth of the league to the point where the ACC can demand much greater money.
Going to 16, especially if one of those two additional adds is Notre Dame, gives the ACC much more clout at the negotiation table.
Besides, if we all believe we will eventually end up at 4 16-team conferences running everything, it wouldn’t make sense to renegotiate a contract now only to re-renegotiate it when teams 15 and 16 are added.

I simply meant
that expanding to 14 allows them to renegotiate. Now that they realize that they probably settled for quite a bit less than the going rate.
it wasn't panic
And if it results in higher payouts for each team, it decreases the odds that a school bolts for another league.
Eyes will be on the SEC
I think everyone else will be staying pat until they do something else. Big East and PAC 12 have stated their chilling for the time being, and I believe the Big 12 is going to relax for a while and get rid of Beebe… then they might start to make some moves (see the PAC 10/12 when they brought on Larry Scott).
Don't believe this "pledge" Marinatto spoke of
Virtually every football school is looking to move, especially UConn, Rutgers, and WVU

I call BS
Its all cool until the SEC adds its 14th, and I’m still not sure Mizzou is the answer there. Even if it is, that restarts the merry go round again.
So is the pic meant to suggest that the ACC is the Bluth family?

mostly it's meant to show my disgust at the obvious BS above it
But I like the idea of the ACC as the Bluth family. UNC has to be George Sr.
i like FSU as Lindsey
Always throwing fundraisers for ridiculous causes, like the preservation of Bobby Bowden’s coaching career.
I view us as Michael,
high level of potential, responsible, respectable, yet overshadowed and undermined by our dysfunctional brother Gob (UNC), a flashy charlatan of little substance who deceives with smoke and mirrors. (It was tempting to go with Tobias or Barry Zuckerkorn for UNC due to the frequent homosexual undertones surrounding them.)

(not that there's anything wrong with that)

Gob would have to be Clemson
Since they have developed a reputation of being a football powerhouse by smoke, mirrors, and one (dirty) national championship.
Can you not picture Dabo dancing to the final countdown in your head right now?

Boston College would be Bland I mean Egg I mean Ann
Because during expansion we were all like, “her?”

Pledge?
Yea right. WVA announces they are headed to the SEC at game day Saturday. UConn desperately wants out of the BE and into the ACC. Notre Dame is still in play. How the ND deal pans out will decide if/when we go to 16.
A number of SEC fans (mostly Tennessee) that I've talked to
want NC State as the 14th team in the SEC. Personally I would LOVE it. And it would make a lot of sense for the SEC – a big grab in the Raleigh & Charlotte markets.
The new $20M ACC buyout probably makes it a non-starter. Also, I’m not familiar with the situation, but I’d imagine that politically it’s probably not going to happen. But I think it would be awesome if it happened. What do you all think?
It would be as great an idea
as leaving that wonderful wife of yours for that hot, not-too-bright (I mean really hot, and really, really …. just really thick) girl that kinda looked at you that day in the Starbucks.
Exciting. Really dumb.
