Not a good sign
So through two FBS games, there's a trend... and not a good one. Well, hell, there's more than one, but this one's curious in its consistency.
We beat Wake by 35 last year, lost by 7 this year.... a 42-point swing year-over-year.
We beat Cincy by 11 last year, lost by 30 this year... a 41-point swing year-over-year.
I was half-joking before the game that, if the Wake game was a sign of things to come, we should lose by 30+... but dammit... it actually happened. And unfortunately, I really don't think these are the last two data points that will look that way...

a few things are different this year.
the Wake and Cincy games were on the road this year. had they been at home i would have taken us over Wake. while i would not have taken us over Cincy, it would have been closer. the GaTech game was there last year, at State Saturday. i expect better from State Saturday if, and only if, the defensive line starters return. further, with the extra time State has to prepare for GaTech due to a Thursday night game improvement will happen.
Saturday night, us fans may not dream of sugar plums but it will not be a Nightmare on Elm Street.
