State made it look easy at times, and there were no real major moments of concern, there was just the frustration that came from going up seven to going down two to going up eight to being tied to going up 14 to having to make free throws in the last minute to seal the deal. There are worse things I could be lamenting right now, but fortunately the team took care of business down the stretch, and while they were never able to really pull away from those pesky Terps, they fought hard and answered Maryland's runs.
State benefited from another night of outstanding free throw shooting (21-24) and did a good job around the rim at the defensive end despite Alex Len's toweringness. The Terps hit just 43.6% of their twos. Maryland made up quite a bit from beyond the arc, where they made seven more shots than NC State did, put the Pack did enough in other places to secure a pivotal conference win.

Outstanding win
I know Pomeroy does not like them, but I think Maryland is a top half of the ACC team at full strength and that this was one of our toughest games on the schedule.
Zo Brown was the player of the game for me. Absolutely in control throughout. 11 points, 9 assists, 7 boards, 1 TO is a sick line.
Calvin was very good as well, though he needs to cut down on TOs.
Everyone should go to Pack Pride and listen to Gott’s postgame interview. I love listening to him. He just gets it. I love how he’s put a stake in the ground by setting a 11-5 record as the goal.
10 to go
At least it seemed all CJL’s turnovers were positive ones this time. None of the variety where he does the take it the full length 1 on 4 heroics. Perhaps RH was just surprised that Calvin is making an interior pass so hopefully he will now start looking for it.
Yeah, she didn't exactly seem to be in a big rush for the moment to end.
All aglow afterward.

It looked like
her boyfriend was possibly sitting beside her…dude had the most fake “it’s ok my GF is hugging a college basketball player” smile
Glad we got them first
Agree with TVP that Maryland is probably a top half team. Len is a major, major pickup, and neither he nor Howard is really factored into their Pomeroy rating right now. Based on this weekend, they have more upside than any of the other teams that lost.
For so much of the game this felt so much like Stanford – “we should have this in the bag by now.” Glad it didn’t turn out that way.
CJ didn't get cramps either
I love the Steelers.

Great win... period
Yep – it’s the kind of game we need to win… but it’s also the kind of game that could’ve launched Maryland into a decent season. Instead, it potentially does the same for us.
Defense was better at times… I love our jump-out on high screens… most of the time they effectively disrupted Maryland’s offense… occasionally, it wasn’t quick enough and we got burned. But at least the defensive effort was there.
I’ll take that kind of win on a night when we don’t get anything from the arc. Well-done, guys…
Our perimeter defense
actually seemed better to me than usual, despite the %‘s that Maryland put up. Stoglin drained 4-5 terrible looking 3-pointers, that I can’t fault our defense on. I don’t know how that guy shoots so well, he has one of the worst looking shots I’ve ever seen. Len is going to be a beast down the road for them as well.
I always seem to find myself thinking, Leslie should be having a better game than this, until I look at the scoreboard and his line is 18-8. Lorenzo Brown had a great game and Howell showed some good moves going up against Len.
Nitpicking, it seemed like a lot of our screen plays involve the guy receiving the pass to be runnning directly away from the basket and firing up a turnaround fadaway jumpshot. Wood was hitting them, but it doesn’t seem high percentage to me.
Even Karl Malone
thinks Stoglin needs to tone down the leg kick on his J.
Physically impossible to not be happy about this win
Played well throughout against a fairly strong opponent. Let’s hope we can keep it going and string together a few of these to start the conference season
I am surprised
nobody has mentioned State players allowing Maryland players to just take the basketball from them at the end of the game. I don’t know if it is a by product of the offensive player no longer being able to clear space with his elbows (which is bullshit btw), but it was really the only thing I was unhappy about in the end of game execution.
Also, that intentional foul call on Maryland was the most NCStateShit call I can remember seeing being called on an opposing team.
Now for the positives
I loved Lorenzo Brown’s play. He was always in control. Leslie played big and Howell had better success than I thought he would against Len. Also great to see guys hitting freethrows down the stretch.
The defense was overall better than the stats show. Stoglin just hit some tough shots and you have to tip your cap to him. If not for him, the game would have been a blowout.
With Len in the middle and Pe’Shawn taking point responsibilities from Stoglin, I think Maryland is going to keep improving and be one of the better teams in the ACC, so this will turn into a good win for State.
Forgot to add
I liked Wood showing some versatility and taking some 2 point shots. Also, Painter’s two plays in succession, where he beat Len down the court for easy baskets was a key turning point in the game. Great hustle.
The Painter plays were big
That was a place where we took advantage of Len – he was dead, and that may never be a strength for someone his size. But I bet in March he’ll be in better shape.
We beat Maryland!
Our shooting looked somewhat woeful, but the boards appeared to be in our favor and I was happy with Leslie and Brown. I hope Howell makes a reappearance during conference play and how about Painter? In the first half he seemed to grab every board while he was in there. I still can’t believe their 3-pt shooting, but I’ll take a win and geting off to a good start in ACC play. Looking forward to Wednesday.
Positives: Played hard, Brown, Leslie
Negatives: Howell, CJ Williams, I have Comcast (bastards) so I don’t get ESPNU
missed bunny at the end aside, I thought Howell played pretty well
He displayed some nice moves in the post against Len.

All I had to go on was gametracker, so I hope I'm wrong
But it looked like he missed a lot of close-range shots (Len’s presence) and he didn’t grab many boards, per his usual game, glad he played better than his stats looked.
Big stretch coming up
We will be favored in our next 3, maybe 4. Miami on the road will be our only chance at being a dog. We can (should?) be 5-0 in the ACC when we hit Chapel Hill. I know that is a very non-NCSU thing to do and all, but I’m optimistic.
It's hard not to look at
As bad as the ACC is, I’m really hoping we can win the games we are suppose to win this year. How good would it be sitting at a potential 6 – 1 after the game with UVA and GT, WAKE, BC on tap… Yea I’m jumping entirely too far to help, but I haven’t had this much hope this late in the season since Julius Hodge was on the roster.
