In 2012 Back Under UNC's Thumb-I Hate That!

For this article I am going to focus on the four sports which mean the most to me: men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and football.

Yes, State has been losing to UNC in men's basketball year after year, but we could always point to winning five straight games in football, winning some women's basketball games and winning some games in baseball. But... not so much in the year of 2012.

In 2011 the men's basketball team lost to UNC both times. State lost the first game 84-64 and lost the second game 75-63. However, the women's team split with UNC in 2011 losing the first game 83-76 and winning the second game 88-72. Up to this point Kellie Harper had been splitting her games with UNC, winning at least one game each year, one at home and one on the road.

Now, baseball. Yes, baseball did well in 2011 sweeping the TarHeels by winning the last game 10-2.

And, then there was football. In football State won their fifth straight over UNC by a score of 13-0.

Oh! But in 2012. 2012 has not been very good at all against the Heels. First, the men's basketball team lost three games against UNC. State lost the two regular season games 75-55 and 86-74. Then State lost the semi-final ACC tournament basketball game 69-67 on that controversial play. If one was a State fan, Marshall charged. If one was a UNC fan, Johnson was blocking. The ref decided on a no call. There were other calls and non-calls which were discussed by ESPN, but the ending left me......angry.

Then it was baseball. State won 1 of 3 at Chapel Hill winning the first game 3-1 then losing the next two games 4-3 and 7-4. However, the game that really hurt was the ACC tournament game which was attended by a record crowd for college baseball in North Carolina. I was at that game and it hurt. Rodon shut out UNC for nine innings. However, UNC won 4-0 in 11 innings. State went 1-3 against UNC in 2012.

Then the pain really started and the realization that State was back under UNC's thumb set-in. State lost to UNC 42-35 in football. No need to recap. The sore is still festering.

I hate that, i really, really hate that! We have to win some basketball games in 2013. And, some baseball games-no, all the baseball games. And then the football game.
