2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: NC State Rallies For 9-7 Win, Advances To Super Regional

Stay connected for news and updates

Holy crap, you guys. I didn't expect NC State to repay the favor for Saturday just 48 hours later.

Vanderbilt took a 7-3 lead into the top of the eighth inning, but the Pack got a rally going and Tarran Senay brought everybody home with a three-run shot to close the gap to a run. Ryan Wilkins continued his stellar relief work in the bottom half of the eighth, which set up State's final frame.

Andrew Ciencin singled to start things off, then Jake Fincher reached on a sac bunt attempt, giving State runners at the corners with nobody out. After a Brett Austin groundout and an IBB issued to Logan Ratledge, Tarran Senay delivered again--this time with a two-run single. Senay had two at-bats in the game and drove in five runs.

Wilkins closed out the bottom half of the ninth without too much drama, completing an outstanding appearance that spanned 4-2/3 innings. That was exactly the sort of long relief effort this team had to have to win this game, and they got it.

In conclusion,
