Kyrin Priester Defects to Clemson

State's best recruit for 2013 is first major casualty of the coaching change.

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution is reporting that Kyrin Priester, the four star wide receiver commit to NC State for 2013, has switched his commitment to Clemson following a visit there this past weekend. Apparently Clemson hired Mike Reed, former NC State DB coach, to coach its DBs - Reed was the staff member responsible for recruiting Priester and as such was able to lure him down to Clemson for a visit. Apparently time alone with Dabo Swinney and Sammy Watkins was enough to convince Priester that:

Clemson is better than N.C. State. That’s point blank, period. They play better teams. We open up with Georgia. I believe Clemson has better coaching than N.C. State, and I’ll get more exposure there. I’m just trying to make a name for myself at the next level, and help my team out. I just want to win. I want to showcase my talent. There are a lot of people that don’t know about me."

Ouch. That stings with the ring of truth. Apparently Priester has set his heart on Clemson, canceling visits to Auburn and Ohio State that he had scheduled for the next few weeks. I wasn't aware that so many programs were trying to pick our pockets. Apparently they've all suffered losses in their wideout recruiting that they needed to fill with a second-tier guy. At any rate, State is losing its best recruit for 2013, which is an awkward blow - a staff criticized for its lack of star recruiting is fired, resulting in the loss of its typical diamond in the rough recruit. I have mixed feelings about all this. On one hand I know the kid is just trying to do what is best for his career. On the other, this on the heels of Wake Forest and MegaHorse feels like betrayal all over again. You said you would be different, Kyrin. You said you LOVED me.

How could you. You're just like HIM.
