Volleyball.  Hurah!

From GoPack:

The NC State women’s volleyball team collected its second ACC road win of the weekend with a 3-1 victory against Syracuse Sunday afternoon inside the Women’s Building. The Wolfpack dominated the first two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-17, respectively, before dropping the third set, 25-20. State responded to win the fourth set, 25-18.

The Wolfpack (12-4, 3-1 ACC) got off to a great start in the opening minutes of the match, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage before the Orange (5-11, 0-4 ACC) scored their first point. State led the entire set, but Syracuse tied the score at seven after a kill by Nicolette Serratore. Junior Alesha Wilson answered with a kill to give NC State the lead, 8-7.

NC State ended the set on an 18-4 run to take the first set, 25-11.

The two teams battled throughout the second set with the score knotted six different times. The Orange took the early lead, but the Pack quickly countered to trim the deficit. Junior Nikki Glass gave NC State its first lead in the set, 9-8, with a kill from setter Tanna Aljoe. After Syracuse tied the score at 15, State outscored the Orange 12-2 to win the frame, 25-17.

In the third set, the Syracuse offense had much more success registering a .333 attacking percentage after hitting a -.074 in the second set. As a result, the Orange held the advantage most of the set, but the Wolfpack tied the score three times in the period.

The Syracuse defense had no answer for NC State’s offense in the fourth set, as the Pack scored the first three points in the set and never trailed, nor was the score tied at any point. Wilson tallied the first kill in the set, followed by a service ace by Glass. The Orange trimmed the Wolfpack lead to 10-9 after a service ace by Serratore, but a block by Maggie Speaks and Wilson kept the ‘Cuse from tying the score.

Thank goodness for volleyball, softball and baseball!
