I saw HD put this up on ESPN and figured it was a fantastic jumping-off point for wild speculation:
ACC eyes schedule that includes one SEC game every year
It seems there are several obvious categories of matchups here:
Existing Annual Matchups
1) Florida State v. Florida
2)Georgia Tech v. Georgia
3)Clemson v. South Carolina
Already Exists, Will Be ACC v. SEC Starting This Year
4)Louisville v. Kentucky - I think Louisville is a great pickup for the conference and a vast improvement over Maryland. An underrated aspect, though, is that I think it goes a longer way than most people believe in solidifying the natural ACC v. SEC rivlary
Regularly Scheduled Matchups
5)Wake Forest v. Vanderbilt - A seemingly good fit that I have seen several times in the last few years.
I couldn't think of any other regular matchups and that is where everything got fuzzy. There are not a ton of natural rivalries remaining. However, there are a few I think could work.
6)NC State v. Texas A&M - I have seen it said in many places that quite a few similarities exist between these schools and fanbases.
7)Virginia Tech v. Alabama - Obviously a traditional football school would be preferable for this matchup and with the styles the current coaches like to play, I could see this breeding genuine dislike amongst the two fanbases.
After this I'm out.
But, I think this could be a great idea and don't want my lack of imagination to be the stumbling block. So help me out, how do we fill out the rest of this schedule?
