For the second consecutive season, the NC State softball team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack will be the No. 2 seed in the Athens, Ga., regional and play third-seeded UAB on Friday.
Georgia is the host and top seed in the regional and will face Chattanooga in the second game of the day. Times for the games have not been released.
Friday's contest will be the first meeting between the NC State and UAB. The Wolfpack owns a 1-1 all-time ledger against Chattanooga and is 1-2 versus Georgia all-time.
The selection comes as the fourth for the program since it began in 2004. NC State won the ACC Championship in 2006 and 2013 to claim automatic bids to the tournament and earned at-large bids in 2007 and 2014.
State concluded the season by winning six of its last nine games and had a 14-game winning streak at one point in the season from Feb. 21 until March 11. The Wolfpack is 4-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
If Em is healthy, and on her game, State can do some damage. Host Georgia is the number 4 seed, so it will not be easy.
