Lucas Kozeniesky, a rising sophomore on the NC State rifle team, collected a third-place finish in the junior division of the three position smallbore rifle at the USA Shooting National Championships. By earning a bronze medal in the event, he claims one of just three available spots on the USA Junior World Championship Team for the event.
As a result of making the team, the Fairfax, Va., native will receive extra training this summer, followed by a trip to Spain in September for the World Championships.
The selection process for the U.S. Junior National Team is based on a combination of scores fired at the Junior Olympic Shooting Championships held a few weeks ago in Colorado and the U.S. Nationals held at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Training Unit in Fort Benning, Ga.
Kozeniesky collected a total of 1223.2 points at the USA Shooting National Championships to lift him to the bronze medal, while rising junior Daniel Cliff also competed in the event compiling 1197.8 points to his credit. In the air rifle discipline, Kozeniesky fired a 1231 and Cliff shot a 1206.1.
