Volleyball Opening Strong Again

State followed last season's 6-0 ( 8-1) opeing record with a 6-1 opening record this season. Last season State had an overall record of 20-12 with a conference record of 11-9. It was not that long ago that State was dismal under coach Charita H. Stubbs who coached the team to four consecutive losing seasons and was dismissed in 2009 (actually that was a long time ago, but it seems like yesterday). Under Stubbs in 2009, State had an overall record of 8-27 and a conference record of a big 1 and 19.

On the play of the team in the third set…

"We started playing to the level that we are capable. The team was locked in and we started taking advantage of some of the things that we talked about in our scouting report before the match."

On freshman Kaitlyn Kearney’s play…

"She did a nice job for us today. She’s a very intelligent player....
