Cost-of-attendance stipend helping Wolfpack football player support his family

4

"I don't come from a very affluent family, so there have been times where this has been cut off or that has been cut off," Gibbs said. "Now I can make sure that is not the case."

I know there are folks who don't like the idea of paying college athletes, but in a lot of cases the extra money makes a big difference. That's definitely true for Wolfpack sophomore Kenton Gibbs, as WRAL explains here.

Dave Doeren talks OL, scout team performers, Dak Prescott

I'm excited about some of the guys that have played in these bowl practices - watching Emanuel McGirt, Aaron Wiltz and Garrett Bradbury; these guys have taken a lot of reps. It's been fun to see them out there and this class coming in will be important too, adding depth to our offensive line. That's going to be really what it's all about when it comes down to our run game. - See more at: https://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1839113#sthash.CyzlpfeP.dpuf

NC State wrestling's recruiting class 2nd in country

14

The school that signed the most recruits ranked in WIN’s top 25 at their respective weight classes in WIN’s most recent rankings? North Carolina State. Coach Pat Popolizio signed 10 recruits — and eight were ranked in the top 14, five of those in the top eight.

This from Wrestling Insider. Coach Big Poppa P doin' some strong work these days. (h/t Ryan Tice) State is currently ranked in the top 10 after a 7-0 start to the season.

TJ Warren is still better than you at getting buckets

Warren also logged his 9th game of making 2/3rds of his field-goal attempts (minimum 9 FGAs) in that Laker game. According to basketball-reference.com, that ties Yao Ming's total over the first 50 games of a career and is the most since Tim Duncan had 10 such games in his rookie year. Only Shaquille O'Neal (13), Billy Owens (13), and Chris Webber (11) ever had more.

Say hello to Dennis Smith Jr.

23

"We are extremely thrilled to have Dennis join our Wolfpack family," head coach Mark Gottfried said. "He's a special talent who will be an electric player for our fans to watch. I'm excited to coach Dennis because not only is he extremely talented, but he's also a terrific young man with tremendous character. He's the type of person other players will want to play with."

He's signed, so Mark Gottfried can actually talk about him now!

Alex Barr 'doubtful' for South Alabama game

2

"Alex Barr didn't play last week and will probably be out again. We're hoping to have him back for Louisville, but it's doubtful this week."

Jaylen Samuels, not-so-secret weapon

19

"My goal is to score at least two touchdowns a game," Samuels said after he had three in the opening win over Troy. That sounds like a lot, no? "It does, but whenever the ball comes to me, I just have to make a play," Samuels said.

Good stuff from the N&O's Joe Giglio.

Mark Gottfried is going recruiting with a helicopter

29

"The Wolfpack has made arrangements for a coach-carrying helicopter to land at point guard Dennis Smith Jr.'s school, Trinity Christian in Fayetteville. There are similar plans to visit power forward Edrice "Bam" Adebayo in High Point."

If you think this is dumb, then your school probably has a lot easier time attracting elite talent. (via Bret Strelow / Fayetteville Observer)
