Manny Stocker will not return to NC State next season, which comes as no surprise considering the depth chart at quarterback. Stocker played sparingly as a true freshman a year ago, and it became clear pretty quickly after Dave Doeren was hired that he would not have a realistic shot at starting for the Wolfpack this year or in the future. After Brandon Mitchell and Jacoby Brissett were brought in, I'm sure he could see the writing on the wall.
His father told WRAL that he didn't think the QB competition was a "fair process" for Stocker, who is redshirting this season.
"In the beginning, he was told by the new staff that he would be competing for the job," Stocker, Sr said. "But on the first day of summer camp, he got zero snaps. Coach Doeren wanted to redshirt Manny for him to develop but he didn't even get many snaps on the scout team.
"We accepted the fact Manny didn't get the position. But we don't feel it was a fair process," his father explained.
That may well be true, but ... if Stocker had deserved those reps in practice, it's tough to imagine that he wouldn't have gotten them, especially since we're talking about a new staff working with a group of relative unknowns.
Anyway, it's too bad that things couldn't work out for Stocker at NC State, and I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.
