The masses have cried, "Give us more Old Dominion!" and my friends, the athletics department heard you. According to a report from The Virginian-Pilot, NC State and Old Dominion have added a meeting in 2016 that will be played in Raleigh. The Pack hosts ODU on Sept. 6 this year, and they'll travel to ODU in 2015. That initial home-and-home agreement was ironed out in 2013.
Per the Virginian-Pilot, ODU wanted to add a home-and-home for 2016 and 2017 but NC State balked, citing concerns about the low seating capacity (about 20k) of the Monarchs' current stadium. The Monarchs were still willing to add the third meeting with no return trip, and they'll be paid $800,000 for the trouble.
With the addition of Old Dominion, State needs one more opponent to round out its 2016 non-conference schedule. A home game against Notre Dame and road trip to East Carolina are also slated for that season.
