University of Miami center Reggie Johnson successfully underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for five to six months as he recuperates.

"We’re obviously extremely disappointed for Reggie," said head coach Jim Larranaga, who is entering his first season at the helm for the Hurricanes. "He’s a big, strong player who has grown into a vital member of this team, and he was injured while working on improving his skills

— Tough loss for Miami hoops. If the ACC scheduling pairs hold true for this year, BC will once again see the Canes twice in 2011-2012.

The Erie BayHawks announced over the weekend that they have reached an agreement with head coach Jay Larranaga on adding an additional guaranteed year on the original two-year agreement. The reason the team had to extend his contract is that Larranaga turned down a job offer to join his father, Miami Hurricanes new head coach Jim Larranaga.

Bizarro world here, in that Paul Hewitt lands another job and quickly. Blewitt, I mean Hewitt, has a 5-year deal that at its top could reach $1 million per year. This in addition to the $130,000 a month he will be receiving from Georgia Tech for the next five years. Apparently the GT contract also had no offset clause that would reduce the buyout by his new salary. Another strike against Dave Braine and possibly puts him a nose ahead of Fowler for dumbest AD of all time. What a horrible contract.
