"Rodon is going to be in the rotation somewhere, whether it's No. 1, 2 or 3. We could have lost him last night and had to really redo the rotation. And getting our center fielder back—Brett Williams is a pretty darn good center fielder, and he hit really well during the last 30 days of the season. Yeah, the 15th of August will be a memorable day."
Sounds like #WKU has settled on 2 finalists for head coach job: WKU associate head coach Matt Myers and NC State associate HC Tom Holliday.

"Power conferences, especially, where the pitching is better, you're not seeing those teams that rely on the long ball succeed very much,'' said Aaron Fitt, the lead college writer for Baseball America. "N.C. State is an example of that. They've had an OK year, but with the personnel they had back, especially offensively, I think they would have been a lot better if not for the bat changes."
The Wolfpack really must win that BC series this weekend, and a sweep would help. But I think taking two of three at BC and winning a game or two in the ACC tournament would be enough.
State takes the first game of the double header. Beats Virginia 6-2!!
Matt Bergquist drove in a career-high seven runs Wednesday, and NC State set a season high for runs in a 19-5 thumping of UNC Wilmington at Brooks Field.
The Wolfpack extended its current winning streak to a season-best five games and improved its record for the season to 23-16. NC State has won 13 of its last 19 games after a 10-10 start to the season. UNCW lost for the second night in a row and fell to 21-16.
Maynard went 1-for-4 for the game. The home run was his second of the Cape League season. Entering play Wednesday night at Brewster, Maynard is batting .286 with four doubles, two home runs and a team-leading 16 RBIs in 22 games. Maynard is second in the Cape League in RBIs and just one off the league lead, and is tied for fifth in home runs, also one off the league lead. He also leads the league in walks with 20 (compared to just nine strikeouts). He is 10th in the league in batting average, and sixth in on-base percentage at .452. He is 12th in slugging percentage at .444.
Recent Tuscola graduate Tyler Brosius began football workouts at N.C. State this week with a very narrow focus.
Brosius wants to become the best quarterback he can be for the Wolfpack.
But those closest to WNC’s all-time passing leader also have no doubts that Brosius will become a two-sport college athlete in due time.
"He’s definitely doing (baseball)," Brosius’ father, Mike, said Tuesday.
Mike Brosius added that his son wants to complete his freshman season of football before talking to N.C. State coach Tom O’Brien at any length about baseball.
This spring Brackman was the one name that everyone was talking about as the "surprise" of camp. This is a kid that can hit 99 on the gun with the fastball and complement it with a knuckle curve and changeup. Reports indicate the velocity is back and he is polishing his repertoire.
The struggles did continue earlier this year. April yielded a 13.50 ERA, but the walks were way down (1 in 8 innings). However, since the bad start, he has a 3.80 ERA in 52 innings, striking out 51 and, get this, walking only 8 batters. The command is spectacular which is a great sign. I would suspect we could see him getting a promotion from Tampa to Trenton before the end of the year.
