Josip Mikulic Bids Us Good Day

Josip Mikulic, a 6-10 forward from Florida, committed to NC State back in February despite never having visited campus, and given both that and the timing of his commitment, it's no real surprise that he's going to look elsewhere. It was a bit strange that he and Jaqawn Raymond committed late in the year as Sidney Lowe's tenure was very clearly going down in flames.

Raymond inked with NC State this morning:

Lee Hill, Raymond's coach at Statesboro High, confirmed the signing. Raymond had committed to former N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe, but Hill said Raymond felt comfortable with the new staff after they visited him.

Raymond, who's 6-foot-4, averaged 21.3 points per game and shot 79 percent from the free throw line last season. He also carries a 3.5 grade-point average, Hill said.

So we know where we stand with all of the 2011 and 2012 kids who had committed here. Uchebo (2011) and Mikulic (2012) are moving on, while Raymond (2011), Harris (2011), and Lewis (2012) are on board with the new coaching staff. The loss of Uchebo hurts, because I think he could have at minimum helped us immediately at the defensive end (assuming he qualified, that is--apparently that's a big assumption), but James is absolutely right when he says that these defections are nothing to get worked up about. And depending on how the staff puts those newly-available scholarships to use, this could all be for the best.
