NC State Expected To Hire Mark Gottfried -- Press Conference Set For 5 PM

This doesn't make that letter look any better, that's for sure. It's less than 24 hours later and we have a coach. Per JP Giglio:

5 p.m. press conference set for N.C. State

Adam Gold is reporting this too, as is Pack Pride. James Henderson speculates on who the coach might be, and I don't think you're going to like this very much:

The name I'm hearing is Mark Gottfried...
Gottfried, you may recall, was Anthony Grant's predecessor at Alabama. Gottfried  spent 11 years at Alabama (well, more like 10.5) and took the Crimson Tide to six NCAA tournaments. But his program missed out on post-season play during his last couple of seasons, so we aren't looking at a guy with a clear upward trend to his name here. (Obviously, since he was let go, er, resigned.) He's still young, though, and seems to fit what Yow has been looking for. We'll know for sure at 5. Batten down the hatches, boys!

Update: Giglio and Jeff Gravley are both reporting that Mark Gottfried is our man.
