Then We're Agreed There'll Be Trouble

Mark Turgeon couldn't help but reference a certain incident during his introductory press conference this afternoon:

"I had a great conversation with Gary. I know he’s not going to try to sabotage Maryland basketball."

He is referring, of course, to recent efforts by Gary Williams that made it impossible for Debbie Yow to hire a currently employed basketball coach. This is merely the latest in a long string of incidents between NC State and Maryland; these hijinks are a tradition as old as the rivalry itself.

Older alums probably remember when David Thompson was spotted walking out of a service entrance at the Greensboro Coliseum hours before the 1974 ACC tournament title game. Coincidentally or not, Maryland forward Len Elmore later broke down and caught fire toward the end of regulation. NC State went on to win the game in overtime and claim the league's NCAA tournament bid.

I'd watch where I step in the RBC Center next year, coach, is all I'm saying. Does it really take $1.6 million to replace the seats in the arena? Come on now.
