Baseball's Stretch Run -- Looking At The ACC Tournament Picture

I think it's safe to eliminate Duke and Maryland from the discussion--they're both 5-19 in league play--and I expect Clemson (13-11) to hang on to sixth place, so that leaves four teams battling for the last two ACC tournament slots. Current ACC standings:

7. NCSU 11-13
8. VT 9-15 (2 GB)
------------------------
9. WF 7-14 (2.5 GB)
10. BC 7-16 (3.5 GB)

(GB = games behind NC State.)

Remaining schedules:

NCSU: vs. FSU, @ Boston College
VT: vs. Clemson, vs. Georgia Tech
Wake: vs. Boston College, @ Duke, @ Maryland
BC: @ Wake, vs. NC State

Wake Forest has by far the most manageable schedule down the stretch, and they also have three games in hand. I don't think they'll have enough to catch NC State, though Virginia Tech is in trouble. A 3-3 finish by the Pack should be plenty to lock them into the conference tournament, and 2-4 might do it as well. For all the struggles, this team is better positioned to make both the ACC and NCAA tournaments than it was this time last year.
