Multiple Reports: Butch Davis Out At UNC

Joe Schad:

Butch Davis has ben told in meetings w chancellor as AD that the process of termination had begun

CBS Sports:

According to CBSSports.com sources, Butch Davis has been fired as head coach of North Carolina, players have been told.

Jonathan Jones (Daily Tar Heel):
Sources tell me that Butch Davis has indeed been fired as head coach of UNC football as early as this morning.

THF:

Inside Carolina initially broke the story saying that UNC officials refused to confirm or deny Davis was still the head coach following a meeting between chancellor Holden Thorp and the UNC Board of Trustees. A not so insignificant factor in this is the fact a new BOT took over today and without noted Davis supporter Bob Winston who rotated off with the expiration of his term.

Inside Carolina:

Per sources, there is no new information connecting Butch Davis to the investigation, but new leadership wanted change.
Appears it was new leadership on the UNC Board of Trustees, rather than any new information from the investigation, that doomed Butch Davis's career in Chapel Hill.

University of North Carolina Chancellor Holden Thorp announced this evening that Butch Davis has been dismissed as head coach of the Carolina football program. Davis was informed by Thorp and Director of Athletics Dick Baddour of the decision.

"To restore confidence in the University of North Carolina and our football program, it's time to make a change," said Thorp. "What started as a purely athletic issue has begun to chip away at this University's reputation. I have been deliberate in my approach to understanding this situation fully, and I have worked to be fair to everyone involved. However, I have lost confidence in our ability to come through this without harming the way people think of this institution. Our academic integrity is paramount and we must work diligently to protect it. The only way to move forward and put this behind us is to make a change."
