Now that N. C. State seems to have overcome the bugaboo of beating Maryland on the gridiron and the basketball court, the Terps have turned tail and turtled to the Big 10. An ESPN report confirms Maryland's Board of Regents has approved the deal, and the official announcement should come today at 3 p.m. With the athletics' department underwater and shedding sports, I'm not sure how exactly the Terps are affording the $50 million exit fee. The ESPN article suggests that there may be room to negotiate there. No doubt Clemson and Florida State will be watching anxiously to see how the Turtles wiggle out of this one.
Rutgers is expected to leave the Big East for the Big 10, with the official announcement coming tomorrow, as the once flyover-country league makes inroads into the northeast.
This move is a puzzler, especially considering Maryland's financial woes. Enjoy figuring out that new travel budget, guys.
So, what does this mean for the future of The Swoff? Who does the ACC add in Maryland's stead? Is this the end of the exodus, or will there be more?
Discuss amongst yourselves.
