Ralston Turner Granted Release, Will Decide Between NC State And LSU

This is one of the strangest things I've seen in a while. LSU sophomore Ralston Turner has been granted his release from Louisiana State, but he apparently intends to make just one visit--to NC State--and then decide if he should transfer or stay at LSU.

"I have been given my release and I will be taking a visit (to another school)," Turner said in the news release. "That's all. I didn't say I was 100 percent leaving (LSU). It's something I have thought about for a while and Coach Jones is allowing me to do it. I am going to take a visit and when it's over I will weigh my options."

New LSU head coach Johnny Jones, who spent one year as an assistant to Gottfried at Alabama, has left the door open for Turner's return.

"Upon my arrival about three weeks ago in my initial meeting with Ralston, he indicated that he had previously discussed with (previous LSU coach) Trent Johnson that he might consider transferring from LSU," Jones said. "I told him that we would get together to discuss that at the end of the semester and that if he wished he would be granted permission to explore other opportunities.

"I have encouraged him to explore other options with the opportunity to return provided he is 100 percent an LSU Tiger," Jones said.

I guess he'd started to have second thoughts towards the end of the season? How often does a guy say "grant me my release so I can think about this one other school" instead of "grant me my release, I'm moving on for good"?

Johnny, what can you make out of this?
