NC State Will Play In The 2012 Jimmy V Classic With UConn, Texas, And Georgetown

Mark Gottfried's out-of-conference toughness quest continues, as the Wolfpack is officially set to play in the 2012 Jimmy V Classic. State will play UConn first, and there are potential rematches with Texas or Georgetown after that. Every team in the 2012 Classic participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

"We’re proud to participate in the Jimmy V Classic and it’s a reminder to all of us how special Coach Valvano was and continues to be to N.C. State," Wolfpack athletic director Debbie Yow said Wednesday.

UConn (No. 37 in Pomeroy Ratings in '12)
Texas (31)
Georgetown (13)

The Huskies have lost Alex Oriakhi to transfer and Andre Drummond and Jeremy Lamb to the NBA Draft, so it's tough to guess how good they're going to be next season. They're ineligible for the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Other notables gone: Texas lost J'Covan Brown; Georgetown lost Hollis Thompson, Jason Clark, and Henry Sims.

[UPDATE: I assumed this was a tournament format but it isn't. So forget that stuff about rematches. Whoopsies.]
