Purvis Productive in Spurts as USA Goes Gold

Team USA went all Dream Team on the competition in the U18 FIBA Americas Championship, winning all 5 of its games by an average margin of one gazillion points. The 81-56 win over Brazil for the gold medal actually qualified as a nail biter.

Pack fans' thoughts about the tourney can likely be ordered like so: #1 "Please don't get hurt, Rodney Purvis!" #2 "How did Rodney Purvis play?" and #3 "I guess I hope the US wins, but really all I care about is that Rodney Purvis doesn't get hurt and plays well."

Pack fans got all of their wishes. Purvis did not suffer any catastrophic injuries, was productive when he was on the floor, and of course the US asserted its will on the tourney like a fat guy at Golden Corral.

Here are Purvis's numbers for the tournament if we extrapolate them out to 40 minutes per game:

Points

Rebounds

Assists

Steals

FG%

FT%

18.0

5.1

6.2

2.6

44.0%

64.7%

Two caveats: Purvis obviously will not play 40 minutes per game, and the FIBA competition was cupcake city, but if Purvis can come anywhere close to approximating those averages per 40 minutes for the Pack this year, he should be able to make up for the production lost from the graduation of C.J. Williams.
