NC State Beats Virginia Tech, 13-4, Clinches Series

Rob Foldy-US PRESSWIRE

Virginia Tech took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday, but from there things went just a hair south for the Hokies. NC State got seven runs in the sixth and added four more in the eighth to turn a potential defeat into an easy victory. The win also locked up the series, evening the Pack's record at 7-7 in league play. And as I mentioned earlier in the week, Tech is in the RPI top 10, so these are quality wins to boot.

The alarming unreliability of any starter not named Carlos Rodon continues, as Ethan Ogburn lasted just 2-1/3 innings. Anthony Tzamtzis ended up getting the victory despite walking four and allowing a pair of runs in 3-2/3 innings, but that's baseball for you.

Trea Turner and Bryan Adametz had three hits apiece and combined to drive in five runs. Four other Wolfpack players had multi-hit games.

The final game of the series begins at 1 p.m. ET Sunday and will be available on ESPN3.
