Vernon Grier Brings Wolfpack Close to Completion of #Pack15

With less than three weeks until Signing Day, wide receiver was one of the few spots left to fill for NC State. After Grier's commitment, the Pack can continue to whittle down their final targets.

With the departures of Bo Hines and Marquez Valdes-Scantling this offseason, the coaching staff reassessed the program's needs and took a look at the receiver position. Grier was one of four names that emerged, and the two-time state champion from Mallard Creek in Charlotte jumped on the offer during his visit on Sunday. It remains to be seen if he will be the last receiver to join the class, but Freddie Simmons (a former Rutgers commit) is a viable option.

If one were to look at only ratings, Grier would not be an exciting pickup. The former Charleston Southern commitment led his high school team to second successive state championship at the highest level. In Grier's junior year, he teamed up with Wolfpack freshman success story Jaylen Samuels at Mallard Creek to take home the title as well.

In terms of measurables, Grier stands in at 5'11" and weighs in at 175 lbs. obviously at that size, the plan is for him to be a slot receiver, similar to the role Pack fans should expect to see Maurice Trowell fill this season. Grier was also a member of multiple state champion track teams at Mallard Creek.

There were several other official visitors this weekend, and their final decisions should be coming within the next week
