Huge double play propels softball to semifinals of ACC Tournament

New, 10 comments

Apparently collisions at the plate are still a thing in women's softball, but Molly Hutchison held on for the out after Hannah Yeager's strong throw, propelling the Pack to a semifinal match-up with top-seed Florida State.

A handful of game notes:

* Emily Weiman set the single-season strikeout record for NC State, pushing her season total to 290.

* The teams combined for seven errors but the Pack scored the game's lone unearned run (and it made all the difference).

* Renada Davis has hit safely in 11 straight games.

* When Louisville scored in the bottom of the first, it was the first time in 47 innings that State trailed in a game.

Only two games in the tournament have played to seed; FSU downed Boston College 4-2 in the 1 vs. 8 game. North Carolina knocked off host Virginia Tech 3-2 in the 2 vs. 7 game. Notre Dame was hammered 8-1 by Pitt in an upset in the 3 vs. 6 game. The Pack were the 5th seed but have the third best RPI in the league behind the Noles and Irish, and State swept Notre Dame.

Or, in short: WE GON WIN!
