NC State Recruiting Breakdown: Thomas Allen

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

So a lot has happened since I made my original recruiting post (as is the nature of recruiting itself). Some people are off the board, some people we have backed off of and some people we've made a major push for. We have some visits this weekend from two recruits that could be very important for us going forward.

Lets start with Thomas Allen. Allen is a 6'1" combo guard wired to score. A dead-eye shooter with "sneaky" athleticism, he can score in bunches. He's a liability on defense right now but he's mainly on the floor to score and distribute. He can play off ball as well as he is a knock down catch and shoot player. Rivals has him as a 3 star, Scout has him as a 4 star, 247 him as a 3 but their composite has him as a 4, ESPN has him unranked (fuck em).

You're wondering why is he such an important piece. He's not usually the type of kid Gott goes after. Well first he's from Garner (My hometown and also the hometown of David West and John Wall). Second he's had little to no exposure but the move to basketball powerhouse Brewster Academy will change that. Third we've been burned by under-recruiting in-state talent before (Gary Clark, Montrezl Harrell). Fourth He's a solid four-year player who will be impossible to deal with as a junior and senior for his scoring ability. BUT he doesn't scare off higher level recruits we are looking at right now (Sexton, O'bannon).

He's on campus right now. Moved up his OV by a month after Gott went to New Hampshire to visit him at Brewster (which bodes well for us). Here is some highlight film for you:
