WBB: Asking if Elissa Cunane Is Any Good Is A Clown Question (Plus N.C. Recruiting Success)

State 2018 commit Elissa Cunane's stock is definitely rising. Asking if she is any good is a clown question. The following paragraphs from an article by Prospect's Nation about Cunane's play at the PSB Classic (she was the featured player of the article) taking place in Lawrenceville, Georgia show why:

[The second session of the PSB Tip Off Classic saw 160 teams and more than 100 college coaches head to the suburbs of Atlanta looking to make a match for the future. Here are some standouts from Sunday's action.]

Cunane came into spring ranked in the ELITE 100 and this performance suggests her stock should be on the rise on her No. 73 spot. Standing approximately 6 feet 5 inches, she is mobile and shows terrific hands, making numerous tough catches in traffic against a tough West Virginia Thunder team. When attacking from the high post her spin move was impressive. She drew defenders, spun back to the middle and finger rolled it over the front of the rim, making it look easy in the process. She started the break on a couple of occasions and was terrific playing in the high-low game.

Additionally, when Elissa committed to State in January, ESPN Women's Basketball ranked her as the 52nd best player in the 2018 class. Today the same site ranks her as the 40th best player. While Elissa is still given four stars her scout's grade has improved from 92 in January to 93 as of today. One might guess that before Elissa graduates she will be a five star prospect. Note that Elissa was both Associated Press and North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association first team all-state in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

We've been reading books of old
The legends and the myths
Athena being bold
Bellona with her gifts
The Major with her control
Wonder Woman with her fists
And clearly We don't see anyone upon that list

But she said, where'd you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?

We're not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts
Some superhero

Some fairytale bliss

Just someone we can turn to....just something just like this:

"When attacking from the high post her spin move was impressive. She drew defenders, spun back to the middle and finger rolled it over the front of the rim, making it look easy in the process."

RECRUITING IN NORTH CAROLINA

Is State women's basketball getting some of the best players from the state of North Carolina? Take a look at the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association 2016-17 first team (the players either committed to State or part of State's 2017 class are in bold):

Mikayla Boykin; Kai Crutchfield (2017); Elissa Cunane (2018); Kayla Jones (2017); and Ariyana Williams.

Additionally, Elissa was one of three unanimous selections to the 2016-17 Associated Press All-State team. While not a unanimous selection, Kai Crutchfield also made the team. Both players made the 2015-16 Associated Press All-State team.

One should also point out that State's current roster has two players which were on the NCBCA 2014-15 first team, those players being Rydeiah Rogers and Grace Hunter, who transferred from Charlotte at the end of the 2016-17 season.

While other associations who name all-state teams tend to put more than five players on the team, NCBCA names only five players to its first team making that team more difficult to make.
